Devious Journal Entry

Fri Aug 29, 2008, 8:25 PM
stole this from Kitsumie who stole it from someone else lol

1. When did you first acknowledge that you could draw well, or decided you wanted to learn to draw?

well i dont think i ever officially acknowledge that i could draw well at all and the only reason i decided i wanted to draw is because my sister liked too and i always looked up to her and followed her. but that was when i was very very young, i still am young but a lot has changed from then.

2. Is there anything 'deviant' about your art, as the site's name would imply?

hahah no, i dont consider anything about my art "deviant"

3. A video game company has put you in charge of designing a lead character for a platformer title. What have you created?

There is this girl, and country side girl who has lived with her grandparents on their farm for most of her life since her mom and dad where killed by the "law" for something they didnt do. She hasnt officially learned what happened to her parents until discovers a letter in her grandpa's study from the "law" stating that they had inprisoned and killed her parents. Angered and confused that her grandparents hadnt told her any of this. She runs away to discover why her parents have been killed. she discovers what truely happened to her parents and along the way also uncovers many hidden secrets about the "law" of her country and decides she must do something about it and befriends a theives to help her.

hahah idk rough idea i guess. could possibly work if i cleaned it up a bit.

4. You just found out a 12-year-old has been heavily referencing your characters, perhaps even tracing them. What do you do?

Idk i would tell them that i am honored that they are referencing me but i would also tell them that tracing is stealing and stealing is wrong, except it would be more direct. lol idk it doesnt anger me as much as it does others but people still shouldnt do it

5. Would you feel comfortable if your parents viewed your Deviant art gallery, or had it bookmarked?

i would feel uncomfortable if anyone i ACTUALLY knew did that, which they have in some chases. which i dont like at all, idk why but i hate knowing people who have seen my art. thats why i dont draw at school unless its for a project

6. Do you view your Deviant art account as your online professional/college portfolio? A site through which you seek critique/improvement? A social network?

i came to DA first because i wanted to learn from the other artist and hopefully get some advice and crits. but it is also a easier way to save all my art then on my computers hard drive. i never officially came here for social but it is nice to talk to people here. i am i little dissappointed that people dont critique hardly at all.

7. What would it take to get you to draw porn? For those who already draw porn, why do you draw it?

nothing i wouldn't draw porn, naked people yes but porn no.

8. You are hired to do illustration/graphic work for a company you've hated since you were a child. For example, someone who grew up a fan of DC comics and hates Marvel is offered a job working on one of Marvel's major titles. Do you turn the job down?

i would be honored even if i hated them, i mean i could be like ha see that i drew that. but i dont hate anything literally i think anything is great, i guess you could say im an optimist or whatever.

9. Do you like fan art? If so, what do you look for in fan work? What makes it 'art' for you?

um fan art for me? or for like movies and anime junk?
well if its for me a love it no matter how skilled the artist or how well the picture is drawn i mean that fact they they spent their time drawing something for me is such and honor. and as for the movie and anime fan art, i dont personally like it as much because i rather see some character the artist themselves have created. something original is more appealing then something you see on tv.

10. Everyone makes a big deal about 'style.' How do you define style?

style is the way a certain artist draws, even if it is a similar to many others styles there is still a distinct difference between peoples styles. unless of course they are copy-cating.

11. On a related note, how important is personal style for an artist? Should an artist's style be versatile, or would compromising their style to pander to a certain audience make them 'sell outs?'

I think that a personal style is something that defines an artist. and if they are drawing a certain way just so they can get the most comments and become a "sell out" then they are not a real artist in my opinion. if you are going to draw, draw for yourself not for others.

12. What would your ideal job as an artist/illustrator be?

animation artist i guess, not those crappy new 3-D animation movies i would make it an old fashion flat disney movie, those were the best. and showed a true artists talent

13. How do you feel about Western/English-language comics being made to read right-to-left as opposed to the traditional left-to-right (like untranslated/un flipped manga)?

personally i could careless its their choice. and i dont read mangas anyway

14. How important do you think school/training is for art/illustration?

well i think anyone can benefit from school training but its not like you need it.

15. Who would be your desired target audience if you were to make a comic/animated project?

everyone i guess idk, the reason i would make a comic is for myself and i could careless if others read or liked it cause if i liked it then i would be completely satisfied.

16. You've been hired to draw a mascot for a company that you feel is a blatant racial stereotype. Do you refuse the job? Do you try to design the character in a way that lessens this factor? Do you just accept it as a job to do and the character's portrayal is the company's responsibility?

uh i wouldn't except it if it was racial, they can get another artist to do that.

17. What company would you absolutely die to work for? Or, what character/series would you love to work on/revive if given the option by the original creators?

i dont really want a job as an artist at all soo no one.

18. You're working on a comic/animation/etc that is auto-biographical. Do you base the plot completely on the actual events/characters? Or do you use new characters and settings to retell the events?

i would use new characters and setting to retell the events because some might be offended if i told it as it was.

19. Would you hire a writer/scripter to work on your own original comic/animation idea? Or would you want to be in control of every aspect of your creation?

i would want to be in control of every aspect of my creation but i would ask for help from others now and again

20. What is the best advice you could offer to an aspiring artist?

its only drama if you make it drama. and practice practice practice

21. How do you feel about having fans of your work? How far can a fan openly love your work before they start to irritate you?

any fan is welcomed and enjoyed fully.

22. Your favorite artist puts out a comic/animation/etc that you feel really, really sucks. Do you resell it, or keep it just because you like the art(ist)?

well i bought it so i would keep it, i have bought many books that i dislike but i still have them.

23. How much money would you invest (travel, admission, etc) to meet your all-time favorite artist?

none

24. What would you use a booth in a convention's 'Artist alley' for?

i dont have the time for a conventions booth, neither would i want one. like i said i would rather not meet people and talk about my art because i am not as passionate about it as most people, plus its more of a hobby for my to pass the time not a career choice.

25. What one factor immediately makes you dismiss/run away from another Deviant artist's gallery?

i dont run/dismiss artists, what ever is on their page is what they consider art and i respect it.
i watch you if you watch me.

26. You now have children who are interested in art. In what ways do you support their interest? Do you encourage them to work in the same field as you?

no i wouldnt encourage them to work in the same field as me i would encourage them to find their own desires and dreams

27. You've just ended a very popular and financially successful project. Do you feel comfortable enough to continue living off of its success, or would you immediately want to start a new project?

new project please

28. Say you take on the new project. Would you feel comfortable making potential flops because of your previous success/financial stability? Or would the pressure still be on?

like ive said before if im satisfied with it thats all that matters,

29. Let's say you've become a successful artist with lots of free time. Would you indulge in a second career/hobby? If so what?

well then i would spend it studying landscapes and anatomy to make my art better.

30. Would you rather Devwatch a consistently amazing/established artist, or an unknown developing artist?

personally i dont care.

31. People are making you fan art. Awesome! But at what point do you stop acknowledging/favoriting a piece of fan art? What are your limits? (Fetish art, fan characters, etc)

why would i stop acknowledging fan art?

32. Do you feel that if someone critiques your work, they're obligated to balance out the criticisms with praise?

no i think that a crique is an offer to help you improve your work and more people should crique here istead of "ooohhh thats lovely" even though those comments are also greatly appreciated

33. Your gallery is popular because of fan art, and your original works don't get much attention. Does this bother you?

i dont draw mush fan art and if i do its for another artist. and it wouldnt bother me even if it was that way because i draw for me

34. You find out your favorite artist draws porn. Do you think "Awesome, more art to drool over!", or do you lose a lot of respect for them?

neither its their choice to draw that and if i dont like it i just wont look at it.

35. How severe an offense do you find recolors/traces to be?

idk i dont get worked up about them. but that doesnt give you a token to do it to my art.

36. Of all your characters to have fan art of, which would you be the most picky about?

um none i like to see how other artists see my characters! c:

37. Your significant other doesn't like one of your characters/story ideas. How much do you take this into consideration?

They are my storys and my characters, thanks for the opinion but i like them the way they are

38. Do you think anyone can learn to draw, or that you have to be born with the skill?

I think anyone can learn to draw if you really have the desire too

39. Thinking about your old art, is there anything you're ashamed of and hope will never see the light of day?

im not ashamed of it, actually seeing it makes me more proud of my current work. because seeing it makes me realize how much ive improved
